NAR Settlement

Commissions have always been negotiable. I have been in real estate for over 18 years and have managed tens of thousands of transactions. Very few things are consistent, but the fact that there is no set commission is an absolute truth. Even when a certain percentage is listed in the MLS (ex. 2% to the buyer’s agent), it is very common for the buyer’s agent to negotiate a larger cut. Most states even have a cooperating compensation form the agents use to clarify the final negotiated commission. Additionally, the seller’s do not always pay for the full buyer’s agent commission. it is quite common for the seller side to contribute 2.5% and the buyer to pay a 0.5%, for example.
