What Kind of Content Should I Share on My Social Accounts?

One of the most common questions I get asked is, “What, exactly, should I be sharing on my social media accounts?” Relevant content is key! A little common sense will go a long way here, but it all starts with branding. We want to consider first, what does our brand look like? To answer that, we must first determine who it is we want as our customers.

If you are a real estate agent, for example, what types of buyers and sellers do you like to work with? First time home buyers? Lake home buyers and sellers? Investors? Once you have determined this, you can then think about what that kind of person looks like. A first time home buyer has very different wants, needs, and preferences than someone looking to buy a lake home.

Determing your target audience will allow you to build your brand. For the sake of argument, let’s discuss what this would look like if you chose first time home buyers. These folks are often uneducated about the real estate process, don’t know where to start when it comes to getting a mortgage loan, and are unclear about what type of home will work for them in the location they need. Therefore, you would build your brand to reflect a knowledgeable, helpful, community based agent. You would select bright and inviting colors. You would select easy to read fonts. You would select attention-grabbing marketing materials. All said, you would develop a brand that screams YOU HAVE THE ANWERS!

Your brand should reflect that in your content selections. Post about FAQs. Post about the home buying process, offer alternatives for mortgage lenders, provide articles about home inspections, title insurance, mortgage terms, etc.

Once you understand who you are marketing to and what your brand looks like, it is easy to select pieces that are in line with that.
