Should I Use a Facebook Business Page or My Personal Profile for My Business?

One of the questions I get asked most often is whether an agent or other small business owner should have a business Facebook page or just use their personal page for all their promotions. It’s a loaded question with some complexities in the answer, but the bottom line is you should FOR SURE have a business Page.

Facebook is run, for the most part, by bots, AI, and algorithms, and they are all wicked smart. If Facebook recognizes that you are running a business on your personal page they may put you in Facebook “jail,” or even worse, disable your profile.

Having a dedicated, professional business Page offers you a world of possibilities. For one, you can only run ads on your business Page. Additionally, your business Page will give you access to features not offered to personal profiles, including data about your audience, Facebook pixel (lets you track visitors), and events, reviews, promotions, etc. These are all powerful tools when used as part of a strategic marketing campaign.

That being said, it is CRITICAL that your regular Facebook friends be constantly reminded of what you do. I like to use a rule of thumb that every third or fourth thing you post on your personal timeline should be about your business.

If you are regularly updating your business Facebook Page you can simply share those Page’s posts to your personal page.  This will allow you to reinforce what you do and will also drive traffic to your business Page, where you can gain more likes and followers. This all will increase engagement, which is the Facebook “Holy Grail.”
